This will be our 43rd year making Art at Pemaquid Point, Maine!!
A lot of amazing creativity and growth has happened here under Skip’s watch. It is a truly remarkable group of artists in a very special place.
Skip’s Workshop is held in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Pemaquid Point is the site of the famous, oft-photographed lighthouse and spectacular rocks with salty waves crashing on them. The tang of sea air greets you, perfumed by the wild roses that bloom everywhere. It is an energizing and inspiring place to immerse yourself in making art. Join a group of kindred spirits who journey to land’s edge for a memorable summer of creativity and camaraderie.
Here is the updated info for Skip’s June and July 2019 Workshops. Please read through this information letter in its’ entirety. Even if you are a repeat student, there are important changes you need to know about.

WHAT IT COSTS:
2019 price for the 1-week workshop, tuition only, is $650and for the 2-week workshop, tuition only, $1200. DEPOSIT to confirm enrollment in the class is $300 The BALANCE is due in full the first day of class. Lodging and meals are not included in workshop tuition.
HOW TO ENROLL:
First, go over this information thoroughly, especially the cancellation policy.
Next, email me at email@example.com to confirm that there is room in the class. Class size is limited and it fills up fast: do not send any money without confirming there is availability.

Facilities Fee for Non-Resident Students:
Workshop students not staying at The Hotel Pemaquid will be assessed a facilities fee of $30 for a one week, or $60 for two weeks. There will also be a $5 per item handling fee for packages shipped to and stored at The Hotel Pemaquid by non-resident students.
All fees for non-resident students will be due on the first day of class in checks payable to The Hotel Pemaquid or cash.
LODGING DURING THE WORKSHOP:
Cost for room and board are not included in the Workshop price.

The Hotel has comfortably furnished rooms and cottages in a range of sizes and prices. All have mini-fridges and TV’s, some are equipped with kitchenettes or full kitchens. The is wi-fi at the Hotel. Guests can enjoy the sea breezes from a rocking chair on the broad Victorian Porch or a fire in the fireplace in the cozy lobby on cool evenings.

In the event that an enrollee must cancel less than 30 days before the event, we would make every effort to rebook their workshop reservation from the waiting list. However, if we are unable to, we will refund all but a $100.00 handling fee. If for some reason, we need to cancel the Workshop, you would, of course, receive a full refund from us.continued…
Please review the cancellation policy of your lodging. We are not liable for any refunds to or from The Hotel or rentals booked for workshop attendees in the event of cancellation. Travel insurance is recommended if you feel you may need to cancel at last minute.
ABOUT THE CLASS:
This is a Mentored class. That means the emphasis is on guidance rather than on technical instruction.
This allows each participant to set and explore their own goals and process, at their own level, with the support and expertise of Skip’s 50+ years of experience. It is not a technical “how-to, paint-along” style class. Each student begins with a private consultation with Skip to clarify specific goals and intentions for the week. Bring examples of past work and notes on your goals to the consultation. This is the perfect opportunity to try new things and work with guidance and support. Moving beyond one’s creative comfort zone, exploration and experimentation are encouraged!
There is no set supply list. Each student will provide all their own materials
an easel, as needed.
Monday begins with scheduling a one-on-one conference with Skip to set goals and discuss your work. During daily class, Skip may include slideshows, lectures, demonstration and lots of personal communication each day. There will be at least 2 group critiques per week and ongoing daily conversations of your work in progress.
Class begins at 9 am, breaks for lunch at noon and runs until about 4:00 each day, Monday through Friday. Friday will be for final a critique. This allows a full five days of class, plus, access to the studio on Saturday and Sunday between classes. The carriage house studio is open until 8 pm.
The studio space is an open 3 bay carriage house(garage) with a bathroom, sink, fridge, stove and coffee maker. It will accommodate 16 students comfortably, each with one half of a 6′ table. Students who lodge at the Hotel enjoy painting near their rooms, on the cottage porches, Hotel lawn or en plein aire, on location. Students who rent offsite often paint at their lodging and commute to the class.
ART SUPPLIES AND MATERIALS:
Artists may work in any media.
If you require an easel, you must provide your own. Also bring water containers, rags, paper towels, etc. Bring one or two light plastic drop cloths (dollar store) and painter’s tape to cover your work area from splashes.
Since everyone is working in their preferred media there is no set class materials list. It is really up to you to bring what you want to work with. There is NOT an art store near the Hotel, so make sure to bring more supplies than think you will need. There is nothing worse than having a brilliant breakthrough and not enough materials to make it happen! There is a small art supplies store and hardware stores in Damariscotta, the nearest “big” town, about a 20-30 minute drive.
Because there is a hotel rental over the carriage house, access to the studio is limited to 8:30 am – 8:00 pm during the week, and from 9:30am-5: 00 pm on the Saturday and Sunday between class.
Please Note: There is no early access to the studio before class begins Monday morning without permission of the Hotel or if we are there setting up. The studio is NOT left open beyond pre-arranged hours. It is locked to ensure the security of the space and everyone’s materials. PARKING ON SITE:
Non-resident students may park in the lot to the right of the hotel, all the way to the back. Please do not park in front of the Carriage House, in the guest parking area, blocking driveways or on the lawns.
After a day of hard work, it is wonderful to enjoy getting to know your fellow painters over a glass of wine or soft drink and snacks. We often gather outside the hotel on a low stone wall or in front of the Carriage House. Feel free to bring your favorite beverages and snacks to share for our social time. Many lifelong friendships have been made and tended at The Wall! Ice and vending machines are available in the laundry room.
WHERE TO EAT:
The Hotel provides small refrigerators in the guest rooms and the studio has a kitchenette. A short walk from the Hotel, overlooking the Pemaquid Cliffs and the Lighthouse, is a good place called The Seagull. Riley’s grocery store is 3 miles away. Students often carpool to local places. The Hotel website is a great source of local information and directions to local restaurants.
SHIPPING SUPPLIES TO THE WORKSHOP:
If you plan to ship art supplies to the Hotel Pemaquid, please read carefully.
Students not staying at the Hotel during the Workshop will be charged a$5 per item handling fee for packages shipped to and stored at The Hotel Pemaquid. The Hotel cannot store or be liable for packages received more than the week before the workshop so plan accordingly and do not have packages sent way in advance.
If you plan to ship art supplies to the Hotel that you need to communicate directly with the Inn Keepers and get confirmation that they will receive your shipment. continued…
We are not liable for returned shipments from the Hotel.
Please have shipped packages marked with your name and ‘C/O Skip Lawrence Workshop.’
Also, The Hotel cannot store any materials left on Hotel property after the workshop. Please remove or dispose of all materials after the workshop.
If you are SHIPPING SUPPLIES home, you must prepay and arrange package pick-up with FedEx, UPS, or USPS. The Hotel does NOT handle outgoing shipping. Prepaid shipping return labels are recommended. Helpful hint: If you plan to ship materials home, bring packing tape.
In order to respect each artist’s privacy and integrity, and to create a safe space in the workshop we ask that there be no photography or video taken during class, lectures or critiques, without permission. There is to be no publication of images of Skip’s or other students work/images without their express permission.
We do use images of the workshop on Skip Lawrence website and social media for publicity. If you wish to be excluded from these photos, we will respect any requests made in advance. Just let us know, thanks!
FRIENDS AUDITING THE CLASS:
Many people attending the workshop are traveling with family and friends. These guests are welcome to join in all social activities and may attend the final group critiques. If they are interested in attending the class on a regular basis they may ‘audit’ for a fee of $350 per week. They may sit in on daily lectures and weekly critiques. This is in the best interest of the privacy of the group and out of respect for those who have paid full tuition to attend.
